It's Curtains for Me

Well, fine, maybe it's not curtains for me. It's certainly not curtains for my bedroom. I have a weird inset window and I have previously hung curtains in my living room with a tension rod that is secretly a shower curtain rod. That worked brilliantly and all, so I decided to get some curtains for my bedroom. The blinds do an alright job keeping the light out, but the insulation on my windows is crap, so I got some nice, insulated, sagey green curtains. I was very excited to get them hung as they would add some much needed to color to my bedroom. Like the rest of my house, my bedroom is an unending paint job of boring apartment beige and I thought the new curtains would break that up nicely. I will never know. I have bought and returned three curtain rods in the last week. Supposedly the pocket takes a one inch rod (I hear you snickering in the back row) but no matter what size rod I get, even if I take it apart and try to insert it from the middle in order to avoid the finials on the end, I cannot get this thing to fit. My mind is boggled. I bought lovely curtans...that are apparently impossible to hang! Meanwhile, my bedroom is call, and the cream continues unabated. Can you blame me for being cranky?

Let's go the mall!

Or not. Y'all. Last night I was full of delicious food. I went to an all fondue restaurant yesterday and it was quite scrumdillicious. We also went to the ballet....that actually came first. And conveniently, the restaurant was only two miles from the restaurant (the Melting Pot exists in several states, and you should check it out!). It took us 45 minutes to go those two miles. Why, you ask? Because we had to go past the mall. There were a total of three accidents, one of which happened directly in front of us (don't worry, we didn't need to stay and witness, our view was blocked by an SUV) and involved three cars.

FORTY-FIVE MINUTES.

Y'all. I know there is only a week until Christmas. And I understand that there is shopping to be done. Well, for other people. I'm finished (neener neener). But honestly? It's time to take a deep breath, and learn how to use the internet. 45 minutes. That's insane! And it's a fairly crappy mall!

Anyway, I hope everyone has finished their Christmas shopping now, because I have to go to Wal-Mart tomorrow to buy tissue. a Fairly nasty cold forced me through my backup supply rather quickly and I can't do without them, especially this time of year. That said, if I run into the kind of nonsense at the store tomorrow as was going on at the mall yesterday? It will be hard to resist making with the punches.

ALSO. What is up with the post office? I was trying to decide between shipping my only two Christmas packages priority vs. non. The difference was only 17 cents and if I sent it non-priority it would have taken over two weeks. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. For people wondering why the post office is failing? See the above. That's as ridiculous as going to the mall at this point. Honestly.

It's getting hot in here...

Maintenance! Today I am cranky about maintenance! Why is this blog coming in under the wire on the west coast? Because my smoke alarm started going off. There was no smoke, of course. There was a touch of steam from the kitchen, which was an entire floor away. It's been causing a little trouble. Every time I take a shower it goes off. Kind of a pain, but manageable until I could get around to calling maintenance. So what happened tonight? It started going off. I stopped it. It started going off. I stopped it. Aaaaaaaaand. Again and Again. So I called the after hours maintenance people. It took them over an hour to get here. And THEN when they came, they took the alarm down, declared that it needed replaced, took it away, and took ANOTHER hour for them to bring the new one. And before anyone posts comments about changing the battery...there are no batteries. My alarms are hardwired into the house.

AND! Another thing! I had taken the one closest to the kitchen down like a year ago cause it was so sensitive, and I mentioned it to the maintenance guy, and when he looked at it...the wires were GONE. Apparently, at some point, someone, probably also from maintenance came INTO MY HOUSE WITHOUT PERMISSION and INEXPLICABLY! removed the wires. They didn't fix the smoke alarm, no no. They just ripped the wires out, left a hole in the ceiling and .... that's it. I don't know how I missed it until this point. It hasn't been all that long, and it is so so so sooooooooooooooo creepy.

This is the downside of renting, people.
